The Early Childhood team in the Technological University of Shannon (TUS) Moylish invites you for a dialogue on how to support children and families in a rich linguistic environment.
It is known that 200 different languages are spoken daily in Ireland according to the latest census (CSO, 2022). As a result, the Early Education and Care settings are welcoming a growing number of children for whom English or Irish is not their first language. The changing landscape in recent times toward a multicultural society in Ireland invites us to value multilingualism and families’ fund of knowledge in everyday practice.
With the presence of an international speaker, Dr Christine Parker, an experienced educator, artist and researcher from the UK, and contributions from a local service, our dialogue aims to contribute to the work supporting children and families with English as a second language.
