New Regulations for Childminders

Minister Roderic O’Gorman has announced the publication of the new regulations for childminding, which will come into effect on 30th of September 2024.   This is the first time that childminders will be able to register with Tusla under new regulations that reflect the home and family setting in which childminders work and that take into account the unique features of childminding.

Information for Parents

Childminding provides parents with the opportunity to have their children cared for in a home-based childcare setting. Clare County Childcare Committee maintain a database of Tusla registered & voluntary notified childminders in Clare and their contact details are made available to parents who contact our office looking for a childminder. Although we do not recommend any childminder, we can enable contact between childminders and parents. For advice on choosing a Childminder, please click on the button below.

Garda Vetting for Childminders

All Tusla registered Childminders must have Garda Vetting, but best practice would indicate that all Childminders and their emergency backup contact should be Garda Vetted.

To apply for Garda Vetting, you must contact Barnardos’ Vetting Service directly by clicking on the button below.

If a Childminder is a member of Early Childhood Ireland they can be vetted as members through Early Childhood Ireland.

National Action Plan for Childminding (2021 – 2028)

The Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, Mr Roderic O’Gorman T.D., launched the National Action Plan for Childminding in April 2021. The National Action Plan aims to improve access to high quality and affordable early learning and care and school-age childcare through childminding and sets out a phased approach to bringing childminders within the scope of State-funded supports and regulation over the period 2021-2028.
